Pool House, East Sussex
A private indoor swimming pool and spa in the grounds of a Grade II* listed rectory required a sensitive design to sit comfortably within the protected historic setting. A contemporary pavilion incorporates a curved zinc roof form that floats over a sliding glazed screen on slender pilotis columns providing unimpeded views across the client’s paddocks whilst swimming. The roof form serves to reduce the apparent eave height and permits natural ventilation internally within the pool hall. The building also incorporates a bar, steam room and changing areas housed within a sweet chestnut timber structure. An outdoor spa allows appreciation of the garden in all seasons. The project was described as ‘a valuable contribution to the renewal of architecture within the countryside’ by the CPRE.
