As the first building to come forward in the Royals Masterplan, a wide level of interest meant a far reaching design process. AROS worked with masterplanners Maccreanor Lavington, together with the London Development Agency and Newham urban design panel to develop a set of design codes for the hotel cluster that provide cohesion for other buildings coming forward in the medium term development model. This initial hotel building is a carefully detailed minimal brick design where the play of proportion, shadow, brick detail and landscaping have been intensely re-worked to produce an exemplar building that sets the bar for those that follow.
